Harmon remains as CIFA President

The Cook Islands Football Association held its Elective Annual General Meeting last week Thursday 4 March at the CIFA Headquarters in Matavera.

Delegates from the Rarotonga Clubs and the Outer Island Associations all attended to review the progress of football within their club and the island associations and to elect the new office bearers.

Mr. Harmon, who has been President for over 10 years has been re-elected unopposed to the President’s position for another term of 4 years.

Harmon said that, “He believes he still has a lot to offer to the administration affairs of football in the Cook Islands.  I will work with the Executive and Board Members to ensure the progress of football is maintained.” 

Other positions in the Executive also saw changes with close voting counts to determine who the Board Members for 2010 will be.

CIFA acknowledges the work and commitment done by the previous Vice President, Allen Parker who will be travelling overseas to take a new post.  CIFA would like to wish him all the best in his future endeavors.  Allen has been replaced by the new Vice President, Jake Numanga.

 

Before closing the meeting Mr. Harmon acknowledged the hard work and support given by the previous Executive and Board Members and looks forward to working with the new Executive and Board Members for another 4 years.

CIFA's School visit kicks start

The Cook Islands Football Association has kicked started its annual school visits last Thursday. 

 

CIFA’s technical department Jimmy Katoa and Tuka Tisam will be visiting schools around Rarotonga, teaching and coaching the children the technical side of football and finishing with fun games.

 

The school program which will run till the end of Term 1 starting with the very successful new competition the Primary School Round Cup for F1 and F2’s and end with the one day tournament for grades 4, 5 and 6 on the Wednesday 14th April. The Primary School Round Cup competition in its second year proved to be very popular with the children, teachers, parents and supporters. 

 

“The school’s has been very supportive with our football programs and it’s good to see the kids ready to learn and play football,” Katoa said.

 

The primary school round cup is played after school at the CIFA complex over a period of five weeks starting on Friday 12th March with the finals on Wednesday 7th April 2010.  There has been a lot of positive responses from the schools and parents lasted year as this is the first time a school sport competition has been run after school for the kids. It is about providing opportunities for our children to be active and have a sense of “belonging”, being wanted and needed, we all know sport assists in preventing lifestyle diseases and establishing good social values. 
 

CIFA coaches will be identifying the best players (boys and girls) from the round cup competition to attend its “Talented Player” holiday camps during the first term holidays.

CIFA selects 8 youths to Pacific Youth Conference

The Cook Islands Football Association has selected 8 youth members to participate in the first ever Pacific Youth & Sports Conference (PYASC) that will be held in Manukau, New Zealand from the 15 – 20 March 2010. The 8 youth members will have the opportunity to meet, interact and discuss with around 1000 young people from across the Pacific.

This conference has been organized by Oceania Football Confederation together with the Manukau City Council to be held at the Telstra Clean Pacific Centre in Manukau City for one week.

The conference will include themes of health, education and training, citizenship and good governance, social integration and anti-discrimination where an action plan will be drawn up and presented at the closing ceremony.

The 8 youth members that has been selected are: Mama Henry, Regina Mustonen, Elizabeth Harmon, Teahi Wuatai, Tuka Tisam, Mii Joseph, Abaraham Jim and Campbell Best and these members has been fully funded by Oceania Football Confederation.

Soccer Scholarship continue

As part of CIFA’s ongoing development of elite football players, three young players has left for New Zealand yesterday.  The three players picked for this year’s football scholarship are Opura Emile Mamanu, Terii Framhein and Clark Ngaau. 

Opura is in his second year in the program while Clark and Terii will be attending Mt Albert Grammar for the first time.  Excitement showing on the faces of these young players and for their proud parents to be a part it.

“We believe that this is a very good opportunity for these players to experience and to explore of what this scholarship program is all about”, CIFA President, Lee said.

In the past years other elite players has also been given this great opportunity and has returned and are currently showcasing what they have experienced and have given that back to their local clubs and even CIFA’s National Team.
